If you would like to take part in the competition – which takes place on Carnival Day (22nd June)  – just make sure that you have pre-registered your team at the Information Tent near the entrance to the Norwood Playing Field.

The competition takes place in The Arena at 4.15pm.

With this year’s Carnival comes a themed Fancy Dress Competition.

Judged at 1.30pm in The Arena on Carnival Day (22nd June), judges will be looking for costumes adopting this year’s theme of ‘Beside the Seaside’.

Perhaps we’ll see Mermaids? Giant Shells? Walking Sandcastles? Victorian/Edwardian Bathers?

It’s time to get thinking!

Bookings now being taken for 2013 Carnival commercial stalls

We are now accepting bookings for commercial stalls for this year’s Somersham Carnival Day which takes place at the Norwood Playing Fields and Victory Hall on Saturday 22nd June.

Simply download, complete, and return with your payment before 1st June 2013 (address at the end of the form).

> 2013 Somersham Carnival Commercial Stalls Booking Form (PDF, 174Kb)

With this year’s theme being ‘Beside The Seaside’ we hope that stall holders will have enough time to think of themed ideas to decorate stalls (and themselves).

Notes for stallholders

Cheques should be made payable to ‘Somersham Carnival’. A late payment supplement will be applied to all bookings received after 1st June 2013. The price of the stall is a key part of our fundraising; it helps to keep Somersham Carnival going and supports groups and charities in the village area. Stallholders can set up any time from 8.30am – 11am on the day. Once unpacked, vehicles may be parked at the bottom of the field but cannot be moved until 5pm. Some pitches may allow for one car to be parked behind the stall, provided it doesn’t hinder access to other stall holders or the emergency services. Somersham Carnival provides the ground area, but does not supply tables or gazebo, marquees etc.

Two people in Sumo Wrestler costumes

This afternoon, Norwood Playing Fields has played host to the 2012 Somersham Carnival Day.

The celebrations kicked off with the Procession, which left The Trundle at 12:15pm, taking the newly-crowned Princess Morgan and her attendants Rachel Day and Eleanor Phipps, on a colourful carnival-filled atmosphere to the playing field, followed by many floats, walkers and classic vehicles.

A Baby Competition, Comedy Sumo Wrestling, a Fun Fair, a beer tent, the music tent, and many stalls, kept the crowds entertained with a series of events taking place in the main arena. Even the sunshine decided to ‘Go For Gold’ – a nod to this year’s theme.

Carnival Day is not the end of Carnival Week though, with a Family Cycle Ride, 5-a-side Football and a Pool Tournament taking place tomorrow (Sunday 24th June).

Here’s just a few photos from what has been a fun-filled day.

A new Princess has been crowned in Somersham and is ready for her Carnival Day duties.

Princess Morgan Matthews was crowned on Sunday 17th June. She was joined by her two attendants – Rachel Day and Eleanor Phipps.

The Princess’ duties see her take centre stage in Saturday’s procession of carnival floats and walkers along with her two attendants. The procession leaves The Trundle at 12:15pm and makes its way to the Parkhall Playing Field to mark the start of the Carnival Day proceedings.

Princess Morgan succeeds Princess Anastasia Soteriou as the Somersham Carnival Princess.
