Somersham Carnival 2021- Count The Smiling Faces

1937 Coronation Parade 2016 Pirates on Parade

We have a saying in Somersham Carnival Committee, that when you’re in the thick of Carnival Week and things haven’t always gone exactly as you’d hope – just stand back and “Count the Smiling Faces!”

It reminds us to enjoy the moment and to see that we are facilitators of fun and our community brings its own joy and laughter to the day.

Carnival 2019 was one of our best, with great music and banter.  Sadly there could be no carnival parade in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic and events were put on hold while people focussed on their families, neighbours, livelihoods and health.  Yet still our community managed little moments of joy – decorating their windows, clapping for carers and decorating bins in the planned musicals theme during Carnival Week.

Carnival 2021 will probably still be restricted by social distancing in June, but we are determined to find safe and simple ways to bring joy and smiles again.  What better way to do that than through our theme of “Musicians and Bands Through the Ages” – so dress up, decorate your houses and play your tune!
