Somersham’s sporting stars shine in ‘Inspiring Cambridgeshire’ film

A film by Peter Harmer, made on behalf of Cambridge County Council, features some of Somersham’s sporting stars.

The 25 minute film, called ‘Inspiring Cambridgeshire‘, showcases the impact of the Olympics on the county. Participants of Somersham Carnival’s ‘Sports For All’ day are heavily featured alongside Carnival Committee Secretary, Theresa Baird.

The film was previously shown during The Cambridge Big Weekend, where it’s estimated 10,000 people would have seen Somersham’s future sporting stars playing cricket, rounders, wheelchair football, scooter stunts, as well as others making Olympic-style torches.

Your old Carnival photos and memories needed

Do you remember the first Somersham Carnival? If so, we need your help!

We’re looking for your photos, videos and memories of previous Somersham Carnivals to add to our online gallery here on this site and also to add to our Facebook Page.

Hopefully we can build up a great collection of material showing the carnival through the years. You never know, it may even help re-connect you with long-lost residents!

Share your memories and photos by emailing them to somershamcarnival@ymail.com. Alternatively, if you don’t have the images electronically, just send us an email and we can probably sort something out with you.

Please only send images that you know you own the copyright for (remember: the photographer owns the copyright, not the person in the photo!).
