It’s hard to imagine that it’s almost a month since the 2014 Somersham Carnival Week ended.
Thankfully, the day was sunny – unlike the following weekend which was ruined by torrential rain.
The Carnival Committee would like to say a HUGE ‘Thank You’ to all of the organisations, businesses, community groups, and individuals, who kindly, and most generously, offered their time, expertise, services, and prizes. We would also like to thank all of the people who attended and supported the events that ran during Carnival Week.
Your support helps to ensure that Somersham Carnival continues to not only run, but to grow too.
As the memories of Carnival Week get further and further away, we’ve compiled a selection of photographs, kindly supplied by JLC Photography Ltd. What was your favourite part? Tell us in the comments space below.

This afternoon, Norwood Playing Fields has played host to the 2012 Somersham Carnival Day.
The celebrations kicked off with the Procession, which left The Trundle at 12:15pm, taking the newly-crowned Princess Morgan and her attendants Rachel Day and Eleanor Phipps, on a colourful carnival-filled atmosphere to the playing field, followed by many floats, walkers and classic vehicles.
A Baby Competition, Comedy Sumo Wrestling, a Fun Fair, a beer tent, the music tent, and many stalls, kept the crowds entertained with a series of events taking place in the main arena. Even the sunshine decided to ‘Go For Gold’ – a nod to this year’s theme.
Carnival Day is not the end of Carnival Week though, with a Family Cycle Ride, 5-a-side Football and a Pool Tournament taking place tomorrow (Sunday 24th June).
Here’s just a few photos from what has been a fun-filled day.
Somersham Carnival Week kicked off on Saturday 16th with ‘Sport For All’ – a day of sporting and fitness activity taster sessions. Ed Procter and a number of sports coaches were on hand to introduce, encourage and teach people a range of new activities as diverse as Zumba, Tang Soo Do, Archery, Table tennis, and a Wheelchair Sport Challenge.
Here’s a selection of photos from the day – check back, as we’ll update it with more pics soon.
Do you remember the first Somersham Carnival? If so, we need your help!
We’re looking for your photos, videos and memories of previous Somersham Carnivals to add to our online gallery here on this site and also to add to our Facebook Page.
Hopefully we can build up a great collection of material showing the carnival through the years. You never know, it may even help re-connect you with long-lost residents!
Share your memories and photos by emailing them to firstname.lastname@example.org. Alternatively, if you don’t have the images electronically, just send us an email and we can probably sort something out with you.
Please only send images that you know you own the copyright for (remember: the photographer owns the copyright, not the person in the photo!).
