‘Go For Gold’ at the Family Cycle Ride

Cyclists of the area are encouraged to ‘go for gold’ on Sunday 24th June, in one of the closing events of the 2012 Somersham Carnival Week.

The Family Cycle Ride, which sees participants young and old take in 4.4 miles in and around Somersham, sets off at 11am from the Victory Hall car park.

Participants under 10yrs of age must be accompanied by an adult, and all participants must register on the day at the start line at 10.45. There is an entry fee of £1 for adults, and 50p per child.

Trophies will be awarded to the Junior, 12 and Under, and Senior cyclist categories for the most number of laps of the circuit in the allotted time.

The ride begins at 11am and finishes at 1pm.

Refreshments available.

If you’ve got the muscle power, then this year’s Carnival Day tug-of-war on Saturday 23rd June needs you!

  • Somersham Town Youth Football Club

Get together with 7 team-mates and register at the Carnival Information Tent on the day.

The tug-of-war contest will take place at 4:15pm on Carnival Day. Good luck!

It’s time to pick up those pens and pencils and get colouring crazy!

This year’s ‘Going For Gold‘ themed colouring sheets are now available for download – one design for ages 3-6yrs, the other for 7-11yr olds.

The colouring competition is part of the Country Craft event which takes place at the Village Hall on Sunday 17th June.

Both sheets have been expertly drawn and kindly donated to the competition by the Somersham Art Club, and you can download them now from the links below.

How to submit your entry

Take your work of art to the Country Crafts Registration on 17th June between 9:30-11:30am in order to ensure it stands a chance of winning.

Could your dog go for gold?

Puppies, pooches and hounds of Somersham take note – have you got what it takes to ‘go for gold’ and take home the ‘Best In Show’ title?

This year, the Novelty Dog Show will take place on Sunday 17th June at Norwood Playing Fields outside Victory Hall, Somersham.

If your dog has got what it takes, then you can enter them into as many classes as you like. You’ll need to complete the entry form (below) and pay the 60p entry fee for each class they’re entered into.

Entries can be made from 1pm on the day, and the judging will begin at 1:30pm.

The Novelty Dog Show Classes

  1. Best puppy
  2. Best dog under 15″ at shoulder
  3. Best dog over 15″ at shoulder
  4. Dog with the waggiest tail
  5. Odd couple (mixed pair of dogs)
  6. Best cross-breed
  7. Best dog trick
  8. Best 6 legs
  9. Dog and owner most alike
  10. Dog the judge would most like to take home
  11. Dog and owner fancy dress
  12. GRAND FINAL – Best In Show 2012

There’s a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place rosette for each of the 11 classes. The winner of each class will then go through to the grand final where they will stand the chance of being named ‘Best In Show 2012’, with the winner being presented with the Christine Caston Memorial Cup.

The Novelty Dog Show is presented and sponsored by ND’s K9 Academy.

There will be an agility course set on the day but no dog under 12mths old will be able to go over the hurdles but can go on all the other equipment. All equipment kindly supplied by ND’s K9 Academy.

Hopefully we can build up a great collection of material showing the carnival through the years. You never know, it may even help re-connect you with long-lost residents!
